
Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British performer, songwriter, actress and activist. Born and raised within the London Borough Of Islington she attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, Croydon. Lewis became famous when she was awarded the third series on The X Factor 2006 and received a contract worth PS1,000,000 and Syco music. The song she was awarded and was a cover Kelly Clarkson's song "A Moment like This" that was released, received 50,000 downloads within 30 minutes, and peaked at number 1 for about four weeks. Clive Davis's label, J Records, signed Lewis to a five-album agreement for the United States. Lewis has continued to be successful by releasing Spirit, her first studio album. It sold 10x platinum certified in the UK. This album became one of the top four albums sold in 2000, and it was also one of the best-selling UK albums. Spirit is, as per Official Charts Company is the highest-seller debut album of a female artist. Its first single, "Bleeding Love", went on to chart for seven weeks in the UK. top in UK and was the most-sold single of the year. The song was also the highest-selling single in the US the same year. Lewis won the Billboard Best New Artist Award the following year. In 2009 she released her second studio album, Echo and also composed the theme song, "I See You" in the movie Avatar. Lewis's single "Collide," was an collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii as well as Hurt the EP. It was her debut extended performance. Her album Glassheart, her third studio effort, Glassheart (2012), brought a brand new direction to her music for Lewis and her music, drawing inspiration from dubstep and electronic music. The Glassheart Tour was in the mid-year of 2013, and she started recording songs to record her first Christmas album. Christmas, with Love came out later that year. The album's first single, "One More Sleep" came in at the third position across the UK. Lewis is a British female solo artist, made history by becoming the first female artist to reach the top of the list with eight singles. The record is higher than Olivia Newton John's record which had seven.
